Since the day of establishment of diplomatic relations the Kazakhstan-Finnish relations are developing progressively. Positions of two countries on key issues of international policy are close or coincide.
The foundation to political dialogue between the leaders of two countries was laid in September, 1992 when the President of Finland M.Koivisto visited Kazakhstan. In March, 2009 the President of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev's State visit to Finland took place.
In December, 2010 the Finnish delegation headed by the President of Finland T.Halonen took part in OSCE Summit in Astana.
In 2011 the President N.Nazarbayev met the President T.Halonen twice: within the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (June) and on sidelines of UN General Assembly sessions (September).
On March 27, 2012 the meeting of President N.Nazarbayev with the President of Finland S.Niinistö within the Seoul Summit on nuclear safety took place.
On May 21, 2012 the negotiations of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Y.Kazykhanov with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland E.Тuomioja (within NATO Summit in Chicago) took place.
On September 9-13, 2012 the delegation of Committee on defense of Finnish Parliament visited Kazakhstan.
In March, 2013 there were visits of Ministers of Education and Science of B.Zhumagulov, Environmental Protection N.Kapparov and Foreign Affairs E.Idrissov to Finland.
On April 16-18, 2013 the State visit of the President of Finland S.Niinistö to Kazakhstan took place.
On December 5-6, 2013 the negotiations of the Minister E.Idrissov with the Foreign Minister E.Тuomioja took place in the framework OSCE's Foreign Ministers Council in Kiev.
On March 2-6, 2014 the official visit of the speaker of Parliament of the Republic of Finland E.Heinäluoma to Kazakhstan took place.
