Bandar Seri Begawan, August 5, 2019 – A working visit of the Acting Director General of the Islamic organization for food security (IOFS) Erlan Baidaulet to Brunei Darussalam took place.
During the visit, with the assistance of the Embassy of Kazakhstan, negotiations were organized with the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Awang Ali Bin Apong.
E. Baidaulet briefed the Brunei side on the current state of the organization's activities.He emphasized that cooperation within the framework of the IOFS currently provides wide opportunities for the exchange of experience in the field of know-how, conducting coordinated actions aimed at providing the necessary humanitarian assistance, as well as mobilizing and managing financial and agricultural resources in order to increase food security in Member States. The IOFS representative said that organization is ready to provide full support for the implementation of the long-term food security plan of Brunei in the development of its own agriculture (increasing its share from 1% to 4% within the country's GDP) and the export of some products. In this regard, he invited the Brunei side to join the IOFS and take part in the 2nd session of its General Assembly, which will be held in Jeddah, from August 27-29, 2019.
In addition, E.Baidaulet met with the Deputy Managing Director of the Brunei Investment Agency Ahmad Jeffrey Abd Rahman, where he acquainted the participants with the upcoming plans for the operational and investment activities of the organization, including the preparation of a common information system for the analysis and monitoring of food balances of each of the Islamic countries, the development of feasibility studies of affiliated structures. At the meeting, the Kazakh representative spoke about the activities of the investment promotion agency “Kazakh Invest” National Company” JSC and the Astana International Financial Center, and invited to cooperate with them.
Brunei representatives, positively assessing the prospects of cooperation in the agro-industrial and investment spheres, noted the relevance of the Kazakhstan initiative. It was emphasized that the organization’s activities are an important step towards global food security. Minister Apong said that the Brunei side will further consider the possibility of joining the organization and participating in the 2nd session of the IOFS General Assembly.
