Kazakhstan - Turkmenistan

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan were established on October 5, 1992.

Zhandos Assanov is the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Turkmenistan (from July 2018).

Toyly Komekov is the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Kazakhstan (from April 2018).

Kazakh-Turkmen relations are developing in accordance with the Treaty on Friendly Relations and Cooperation from May 19, 1993.

The legal base of bilateral cooperation consists of more than 70 documents.

The President of Turkmenistan G.Berdymukhamedov made a state visit to Kazakhstan on May 10-11, 2013.

The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev conducted an official visit to Turkmenistan on December 2, 2014. The Head of the State together with the Presidents of Turkmenistan and Iran took part in a opening ceremony of the international railway “Uzen-Bereket-Gorgan".

The Kazakh-Turkmen Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Scientific-Technical and Cultural Cooperation plays a crucial role in implementing the economic potential of two countries. The 8th session of the Commission was held in Ashgabat on November 20-21, 2015.

The volume of Kazakhstan`s trade turnover with Turkmenistan in January-October 2016 amounted to 204,5 million USD which is 40,5% more than the same period in 2015 (145,6 million USD).

Plant products, metal goods, natural calcium phosphate, timber and its products, rolled metal products, as well as flour, confectionary and flour products are major export items of Kazakhstan.

In its turn, Turkmenistan exports to Kazakhstan gas, oil and petroleum products, motor vehicles, fresh and refrigerated tomatoes, engines and power plants.

On August 25-26, 2016, a trade mission of Kazakh producers, organized by the National Export and Investment Agency “Kaznex Invest" was conducted in Ashgabat.

Cultural and humanitarian cooperation has been successfully developing. The Days of Culture of Turkmenistan in Kazakhstan were held in Almaty from April 29 to May 2, 2014.

The Turkmen Public and Cultural Center (Almaty), Mangystau, Kostanai and Karaganda national-cultural centers of Turkmens are operating in Kazakhstan, which actively participates in the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan.
