Foreign ministers of Kazakhstan and Russia discuss future bilateral and multilateral cooperation

          NUR-SULTAN, October 9, 2019 – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov made an official visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan on October 8-9, 2019, during which he held talks with the Kazakh Foreign Minister, Mukhtar Tileuberdi.

The sides discussed the current state and prospects of Kazakh-Russian cooperation in the political, economic, transit and transport, energy, military and technical domains, interaction within international organizations and regional integration associations, such as the CIS, EAEU, CSTO, SCO and CICA.

They exchanged opinions on relevant aspects of regional and international agenda, including ensuring global and regional security, the talks on Syria, the situation in Afghanistan, etc.

Furthermore, particular attention was devoted to the preparation of bilateral and multilateral events at the high and highest levels planned before the end of this year, including the upcoming 16th Russia-Kazakhstan Interregional Cooperation Forum in Omsk, the CSTO Collective Security Council in Bishkek and others.

Traditionally, Kazakhstan considers interaction with Russia as one of the focuses of Kazakhstan’s foreign policy. Foreign Minister Tileuberdi stated the following: “This visit was an opportunity to see the results of painstaking efforts of the foreign ministries of both countries to further strengthen and expand trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian relations.”

Following the meeting, the sides reaffirmed their commitment to further enhancing and expanding the strategic and allied partnership between the two countries.

During his visit to Nur-Sultan, the Russian Foreign Minister was received by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. At the meeting, the foreign ministers of both countries informed the Head of State about the outcomes of the negotiations and further efforts to deepen Kazakh-Russian relations.
