Today, July 6 is a public holiday in Kazakhstan. It is the Capital's Day. For the first time Kazakhstan's capital is celebrating its 21st anniversary with a new name - Nur-Sultan.
Over two decades, the city has turned into a bright brand of Kazakhstan, widely known in the world community, in honor of Nursultan Nazarbayev. The initiative to consolidate the new name of the capital named after the First President of Kazakhstan - Elbasy, who indeed initiated the creation of a new capital and became its inspiration and chief architect, was made by Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The dates of numerology in the history of the Kazakhstan's capital are also closely intertwined with the fate of Elbasy. On July 6, 1994, on his birthday, Nursultan Nazarbayev made a very bold initiative standing at the Supreme Council of Kazakhstan to transfer the capital from Almaty to Akmola. At that time, few people believed in the realism of this idea, however, the decisiveness and foresight of Elbasy allowed to take the appropriate historical decision.
It was a quite bold idea, almost a dream, the achievement of which was to be the beginning of a new stage in the construction of an independent Kazakhstan - strong and prosperous, and consolidation of the people around this goal. The new capital is a project that demonstrated to the world a deep faith in one's own forces and personifies the limitless possibilities of the people of Kazakhstan.
Modern town-planning and architectural ideas, high technologies and a new management style based on the principles of meritocracy were to be embodied in the country's capital. Today, all these plans are successfully being implemented. Many socio-economic and political issues have been solved there. New sectors of the economy have been formed; a high level of security and a comfortable living environment have been provided. The city is successfully developing, becoming more attractive with its potential, especially for youth, business, investors, and tourists.
Over the years, the young capital of Kazakhstan has become an important diplomatic hub in the Eurasian continent, an effective dialogue platform where major international forums had taken place such as the OSCE Summit, the EAEU Summit, the Shanghai Cooperation Summit, the OIC Summit on Science and Technology, and many others. Nur-Sultan is also an important platform in the settlement of the Syrian crisis within the implementation of the “Astana process". In 2017, our capital hosted “EXPO-2017" International Exhibition. Moreover, Nur-Sultan is rapidly transforming into an important regional financial centre on the basis of the Astana International Financial Center.
Traditionally, on the eve of the Capital's Day, numerous congratulation telegrams from all over the world are sent to the Kazakhstan's leadership, which contain warm wishes for further successful development, well-being for its people, as well as peace and prosperity.
Given today's opportunity, we also would like to sincerely wish our capital, all the people of Kazakhstan dynamic growth, happiness and prosperity.
