10 December 1996 – establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and former Union Republic of Yugoslavia. (Serbia is the assignee of the Union Republic of Yugoslavia).
June 23, 2011 – opening of the Embassy of Serbia in Astana. On 4 February 2014 Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Serbia Mr. Nurbakh Rustemov presented credentials to the President of Serbia Mr. Tomislav Nikolic.
May 30, 2017 – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Serbia Vladan Matic presented credentials to the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev.
June 4, 2015 – opening of the office of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Hungary and Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Republic of Serbia. Deputy Ms. Milanka Karic became Honorary Consul of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Republic of Serbia.
Relations between two countries develop in atmosphere of mutual understanding and trust. Positions of two countries on the major problems of an international policy are common. Serbia fully supported Kazakhstan's intention to chair OSCE, holding of “EXPO-2017" in Astana and candidacy for the non-permanent membership of Kazakhstan to the UN Security Council on 2017-2018. On a reciprocal basis, Kazakhstan supported Serbia's candidacy for the chairmanship of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly in 2012-2013, as well as the Serbian candidacy for the Commission on Population and Development of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in 2014.
In 2015-2016, mutual official visits of the leaders of Kazakhstan and Serbia took place, as well as the first official visit of the Prime Minister of Serbia to Kazakhstan in November 2016. The visits made it possible to bring the cooperation of the two countries to a new qualitative level.
June 9, 2017, the President of Serbia took part in the opening ceremony of the international exhibition “Astana Expo-2017" during his working visit to Kazakhstan.
In autumn 2017 Speaker of Serbian Parliament Ms. Maja Gojkovic, Minister of Defense of Serbia Mr.Vulin and First Deputy Prime-Minister – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia paid visits to Kazakhstan.
On 8-10 October 2018 President of Serbia H.E.Mr.Vucic was on official visit to Kazakhstan. Head of Serbian state took part as an Honored Guest at 6th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions.
